Time: 8:26am
What: 20 minutes seated practice
Focus: First Foundation / Exercise 5 - 6 (Sati-)
Feel as though I should change the above focus to "planning Punk Rock Yoga sequence and intention". Realized that frustration (remember we discussed that a few blog entries back) stems not from an idea that stillness in mind will equate to happiness/enlightenment. Rather frustration arises for me when I stray far and for long periods from the focus given for the practice. For instance, the current focus is noticing breath, position and actions of the body; aware of thoughts arising without getting hooked into them. Planning upcoming classes isn't exactly the structure given for sitting (ha ha). Thoughts for short periods of time make me smile. Whole "Gone With The Wind" plot lines bring up subtle feelings of frustration.
Generous in thinking...
Time to apply that second mindfulness training to sitting practice. Compassionate and generous towards my own experience. Coming back to breath and body no matter how far and for how long the mind has strayed from the structure of practice. Ain't no big thang [insert winking emoticon here].
