13 March 2006

So it's Tuesday morning at about quarter to 8... Early Monday evening for you folks back home. Ryan is still asleep... but I can't seem to stay in bed (though honestly, I could really do with more rest).

We got in to Taipei yesterday at around 6 o'clock in the evening... A driver was there to pick us up at the airport and drove us for about an hour to the studio. Eric and William were there to greet us, give us a short tour, hand us some blankets and then it was off to our new home... Yep, we've moved in already! And naturally, being the Nicole that I am, I spent until about midnight rearranging furniture and half-assed unpacking. What can I say? *shrug* I think it's the Virgo in me... I can't seem to settle into a place until I've made it my own. Though I think I was driving Ryan just a little bit crazy.

Eric gave us a very small tour of the neighbourhood. Took us to pick up a power bar (so I could plug in Lucy), went to a really friendly fruit market, to some tiny store and then back to the apartment. There were little temples peppered around the stores and other buildings, with incense burning... I found it oddly comforting.

So that's pretty much everything so far... The airport and billion-hour flight wasn't particularly note-worthy. Ryan's broken wheel didn't present too much of an obstacle (despite his efforts at worrying about it)... We fine-tuned our movie-watching skills (Aeon Flux, Water and Walk the Line)... Oh, and were in one class fancier than Economy, which was nice for a long flight! Current grasp on the situation and emotions so far? Unsettled. Damp and cold. Positive. A bit lost. Yet still remarkably calm (with a gentle fluttering in the tummy that could be nervousness or nausea, I can't decide). I'm adding some pictures of the apartment to the bottom of this blog. Enjoy!

The "bedroom", also known as one half of the room.

The rest of the apartment (use the desk as the landmark).

The kitchen. We still need a hotplate or a microwave... probably some dishes. IKEA here we come!

The shower. It's hand-held and just in the bathroom... no separate shower area. Rather bizzare, isn't it? :)

First steps in making myself at home.
