So it's late. Well late for me (quarter after 11). My bedtime just keeps getting later and later... which I suppose means that I'm adjusting more and more to the time difference. Right? *shrug* Maybe not. Who can tell really...
I had my picture taken today. Exciting isn't it? Not just by a random stranger or Ryan... but by a photographer for the SPACE website. I guess soon enough I will have a teacher's bio and picture up on the site of me doing some yoga poses. Then I can be some sort of "fancy" yoga teacher. You're excited for me, aren't you?
Yesterday was a pretty exciting and blog worthy day (I think). You may notice that the blogs are being spaced a little further apart... life here is starting to become less of an "event" and more of a regularly paced routine. Which I think is good. Then I'll have to start some creative writing... or write some sort of blog essay on the meaning of life... or tell you boring things about how I watered my plants and washed in between my toes.
Back to yesterday...
I taught a morning class (even though I was exhausted from teaching a late class the night before) and then I took a Flow class with Debbie. This obviously isn't the note-worthy part. Afterwards, Ryan and I started walking to IKEA. We needed a couple more things for the apartment... make the place feel more and more like a home. On our walk, we discovered an amazing store. So far we've noticed either cool and expensive brand-name stores OR cheap and inexpensive stores with poorly made funny-sized clothes. Nothing suitable to our Planet Aid tastes. But we stumbled across a tiny funky store that was full of gems! It had a mix of brands but the cheapest prices ever. I bought a couple cute shirts and a dress for 1350 NT ($48.25 CAD exactly) and Ryan bought a zip-up with Jesus on it. Cool stuff. Oh, and I've been reimbursed for the ticket so I am no longer broke. Important stuff that...
So the store would have been enough but on our walk HOME from IKEA we stumbled across a small old man sitting on the sidewalk selling goldfish from buckets. He spoke NO english and kept talking in mandarin to us. He had SO MUCH to say! What could a man have to say to two people buying goldfish that speak no mandarin?! So now Axl, Tyler and Phil (named after the lead singers of bands) join our family, sharing our one-room apartment with Betty, Vera, Rose, Page, Ryan and myself. All we need now is Sheena! I can tell you one thing, fish and plants don't lick the floor clean when you drop food. They also don't cuddle particularly well. Though they make good conversationalists.
Ryan and I have taken some funny pictures to eventually put up on the blogs. Not now though. It takes quite a bit of work to upload them from the camera, make them small and then host them on the webpage. Certainly too much work for 11:30 at night. But you'll enjoy them. Yesterday we came to an intersection where the pedestrian traffic lights were mounted in a giant papermache sculpture of a zebra's ass. It's true. And we bought Taiwan Beer the other night because it had a picture of a doll-like girl on it with patchwork hearts for eyes. The caption at the bottom rim says "Something like love" (??!!??). Huh? It was well worth the 29 NT.
Alright... last event of the day (whew this is taking forever). Last night was the opening extravaganza a.k.a. party for the SPACE Tien Mu studio. This studio is the most amazingly beautiful yoga studio I have ever seen! It is in the fancier/ritzy part of Taipei. Built in an old house. It has two floors... beautiful interior and exterior design. Bamboo floors. Ugh! I was in love! The opening party was a big media event. I guess a lot of Taiwan celebrities practice yoga at SPACE. Two of the owners are on tv - one is the host of the Taiwan equivalent of Fear Factor and the other is a soap-opera actress. I had never met these two owners before... just Matthew, with word of his wife Wendy. 1200 invitations went out for the party. I'm not sure how many people were actually there, but it was busy. Photographers were everywhere, taking pictures of all the stars. The food was catered, with fancy people in uniforms walking around carrying trays. My goodness! Fun for us was that two more Moksha teachers arrived the other day, Monique and Elisa. They will be staying for a month to help the transition of another studio opening. So in total we have 6 people here from my teacher training! Needless to say we had a lot of fun!
So that's it... I'm tired. Here are a couple pictures that Laura sent us from last night. Talk to you all soon. Don't forget to email me!
Love. xo. -n.
