Teaching so far...

Teaching so far....

Teaching so far.....

I said I would write about my experiences with teaching so far. Yoga blog so to speak. Though I'm not sure really what I have to say about it... My experiences teaching in Canada were a bit of a mish-mash of everything... Teaching at the Moksha Downtown studio, Moksha Richmond Hill, Open Arms Yoga, Street Haven, Planet Aid... The students were all different - their backgrounds, level of experience, reasons for practicing, level of understanding of the english language. So (the reason for that whole paragraph), teaching at SPACE didn't seem particularly unusual.

There is definately a language barrier... but there's usually at least one person in the class that speaks english and the rest sort of follow along when things become unfamiliar. And of course, the Moksha series is a set series (unless I'm teaching it...) so people more or less are familiar with the class framework.

The students are all really friendly. The other teachers are great. And the ladies that work the front desk (there are usually 3 or more at a time) are all SO super cute! The cleaning staff ladies are also adorable and really friendly (though their english isn't the strongest).

Something interesting and noteworthy... freedom. At SPACE we are teaching a "HOT class" rather than a Moksha class... so we have the freedom to do what we choose. For example, we can start the class with chanting (oh, aum how i love you) and finish the class with a seated meditation... Which is amazing! Oh, and there is music... little ipods that hook up into little stereos. Also wonderful!

Pretty much that is everything so far. I have taught one class per day since Thursday. I teach tonight at 9PM (it's quarter to 7 right now). Tomorrow I teach at 10AM and then it is the opening party for Tien Mu... that's the new studio.

Oh, oh... I started reading the Jivamukti book (yes, I'm a book geek)... I borrowed it from the studio. So far it has been great. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in some yoga reading. And I am still looking at doing the Jivamukti teacher training in New York... so if anyone has $6000 USD laying around that they want to give me, then feel free! Woo yah! Of course it would have to wait until 2007 or later... after my year here is up and I've travelled to INDIA!!!
