Our holiday away from our holiday.

That is today. Taking a little breath away from our adventuring and fully experiencing of Thailand for some regular ol' comfort and a bit of laziness.

Compare this:

...to this:

Ryan and I are back in Samui. Except this time we decided to splurge on a hotel room rather than a beach hut. We are talking BIG money here. A whole $20 CAD instead of our usual $3 - 9. Ah ha haaa. "Big spending".

What does this extra money give us?

White. Everything is white.

And never in my life have I appreciated the crispness and cleanliness that is white. Don't get me wrong, I have loved the rustic 'camping on the beach' type feel that has been our stay on the islands of Thailand. Waking up and swimming in the ocean. Dirty hammocks. Bug repellent. We are from Northern Ontario, after all. Camping is in our blood. But it is great to SIT on a toilet. To use toilet paper. To have a shower that is hot, on a floor that doesn't make my insides squirm. To use water that doesn't smell funky. And to not wonder what sort of bacteria could be in the water from the bird feces and whatnot that is in its close proximity. Our white room comes with sheets (clean white sheets at that!), towels, toilet paper, free water, air-conditioning, television, soap and shampoo, a bathroom actually in the room. All of these things we have not had for days. Mmmm, yum.

So that is our holiday away from our holiday. No ocean swimming, no hammocking, no sand on the floor, no squatting, no walking to the bathroom in the dark of the night, no miscellaneous stains on the bedcover, no sleeping without sheets or with a dirty mosquito net. I even got to wash my wee little dreadies. They were getting a bit worse for wear from the salt water and such. And now I am the cleanest I have ever been. And it's lovely.

Tomorrow we fly into Bangkok. And it is back to cheap accommodations and the whole idea of 'backpacker roughing it'. Which is a great way to travel. I would rather spend my hard-earned baht on adventures and experiences than television and air conditioning any day. Except today. Because today is the day that I am clean, scrubbed fresh, and going to sleep in a cozy clean bed... ready to continue our 'roughing-it' adventures tomorrow.xx.-n.

P.S. -- I have many stories to tell. About the bungalows we've stayed in. The people we've met. About the towns and areas that we've discovered. The rude rowdy hungover British folks that we shared a songthaew with. Cows in the jungle. Elephants. Monkeys. Crabs. But I suppose I'll save it for when I have accompanying pictures. We shall see, we shall see. In the meantime, don't just be well, be GREAT. Talk to you soon. love,me.
