Question This Blog!
This 'ere blog thang will now take on a new form and include a daily meditation journal (for your viewing pleasure and for the distance learning portion of the Mindfulness Yoga Teacher Training with Frank Jude Boccio). Function AND entertainment... er... or something.
We explored the punk sensibilities of questioning authority - questioning the status quo - questioning EVERYTHING - in Punk Rock Yoga class on Friday. We explored how yoga includes the same questioning attitude in the way of a playful curiosity. We were rebellious and questioning alongside being compassionate and friendly. Our questions (thanks Frank!)...
What are you doing?
What do you feel?
Are you sure?
What do you feel?
Are you sure?
What are you doing? Where is your body in space... What is your body (arm, leg, hand, etc) doing... How is your hand placed on the floor... How is the body breathing...
What do you feel? Feel the mat under your hand, foot on the wall, etc... Do you feel strain, ease, joy... Build awareness around sensations, as well as the feeling tone that arises with those sensations...
Are you sure? "I can't do this, I'm not even going to try." Are you sure? "I can do this, it doesn't matter that my knee is hurting." Are you sure?
Highlights included shoulder openers, a lil' seated meditation, Triangle as a partner pose, and half Handstand using the wall (fun!). It was interesting speaking to students after class... Without too much structure or coaxing, they were paying attention to habit patterns, reactions, mood, how to self-regulate the balance between effort and ease - AMAZING! A parent brought her two teenage boys to class (little punk rockers). She expressed her appreciation for a situation where a rebellious aesthetic was blended with Yoga and Buddhist teachings. Go Punk Rock Yoga and Mindfulness!!
Quote of the class: "Accept nothing as true, until you have experienced it as true for yourself!" Noah Levine, Against the Stream
