Time: 1:00pm
What: 25 minutes asana / 15 minutes seated practice
Focus: Counting “One” to “Eight” (inhalations)
Micheal Stone tells of Pattabhi Jois describing the exhale as "little bit dying". Noticed an avoidance of the end or bottom of the exhalation while feeling strain in asana practice. Curious how exhalations calm the nervous system and yet we unconsciously shorten or avoid them when stressed. Found I was rehearsing blog entry in savasana.
Focus on counting the inhalations... Found myself manipulating the inhales. Created a floaty heady sense of disorientation. Decided to watch the breath at the belly/diaphragm (while counting inhalations) in the hopes of creating a feeling of groundedness (it worked!). Finished meditation with a little bit of a headache and the need for lunch (yum).

Side note: (likely inspired by a combination of reading Allen Ginsberg's poetry/biography and puttering around the apartment solo...) Wonder if planning, rehearsing, and generally being classified as reserved are all related behaviors of building a portrayal of self. Wonder how to cultivate spontaneous interaction or relationship with the world.
Excerpt from Allen Ginsberg's poem September on Jessore Road
Finish the war in your breast with a sigh
Come taste the tears in your own Human eye
Pity us millions of phantoms you see
Starved in Samsara on planet TV
Question of the day: What do you want to be when you grow up?
