Half day of mindfulness. Late morning to mid- afternoon. Noticed that I spend much of my "alone time" in a day of mindfulness format (except with a couple phone calls or a bit of tv and much more internet-ing). Noble silence. Mindful eating. Cleaning and doing chores. All while "paying attention on purpose" with a tone of friendliness, compassion, and non-judgment. Realized that the patterns of the mind in sitting show up in activity. Planning. Straying from the task at hand. Whirlwind chitta.

Time: 2:24pm
What: 30 minutes asana / 20 minutes seated practice
Focus: Awareness at nostrils - "In/Out"

Sitting was peaceful. Decided to bump up the time: 1) Because it was part of the half day of mindfulness, 2) To get used to a longer sit before we begin next month's format. Flutter of thought and creativity. Mind had to dig deep to find topics that didn't arise during the three hours of silence. Had a brief moment of impatience (urge to check the time). It passed. Back to breath awareness at the nostrils. Dropped into the feeling of the body while breathing. Tightness in the neck, chest and shoulders. Inhale expanded into that tightness. Exhale tightness dissipated. Sat with palms facing up to plant shoulder blades onto support of back ribcage. Experienced less slouching and more softness/openness.
