Time: 8:12am
What: 20 minutes asana / 20 minutes seated practice
Focus: Second Foundation / Exercises 5 - 8 (Ana-)
Distracted was the name of the game this morning. Amongst all the thinking, pondering and distraction came a few gems (I wanted to spell gem as "Jem"... Wouldn't have the same meaning, would it? Amongst the thinking, pondering and distraction came a big pink-haired cartoon character with a star earring and a moral lesson). Back on track here. Gems...
Bringing awareness to the breath and the body. Aware that there is breathing. Aware that there is a body. Aware of the parts, functions, and various movements of the body. Awareness brings calm to the body as a natural process. Layer one. Layer two: Aware of the feeling of the calming of the body. Calming leading to joy and happiness. Feel joy and happiness. Aware of the feeling of breath. Aware of the feeling of the parts, functions, and various movements of the body. Aware of the feeling tone of the sensations. Aware of the calming of the sensations. Huh. I think I could have worded my sample class (project two) a little bit differently to differentiate the work of the First Foundation from the work of the Second Foundation. I think so...
Another gem (not Jem)... I briefly reflected on how I've stopped recording my thoughts in my blog. I used to catalog what thinking occurred during seated practice. And I've stopped doing that. Laziness? Perhaps. But I think it's actually because I look at thinking differently. Thoughts happen (kind of like "shit happens"). No big deal.
Sitting also included a brief glance at the time, some impatience, a song looped in my head (which I now forget), planning my class intention, and more. As well as the focus of feeling the breath, feeling the body, and acknowledging calming.
Hoorah!
Time to get ready and go to work... Before I'm late.
