Time: 9:15pm
What: 25 minutes asana
Focus: Second Foundation / Exercises 5 - 8 (Ana-)
Today did not turn out as expected. But then again, what day (or any situation for that matter) ever turns out as expected. The expectation for the day was this... Day off. Wake up and partake in usual morning rituals. Practice - taking a little more time and care. Make crafts, read, have a bath, and stay in my pajamas all day long. Instead, my day went like this... Wake up. Check work email. Realize you have to stop by work. Get ready. Leave the house. Spend half the day downtown. Return home. Eat. Bathe. Catch up on emails and New Leaf prep. Practice at nine o'clock at night.
All that said, practice took the form of 25 minutes of restorative postures. Noticing the feeling of body and breath. Quiet. Cat cleaning itself nearby. Girlfriend clicking on her videogame. Tap dripping.
Forgot that subway chimes were my bell of mindfulness (oops). Added a third micro-practice to the mix - walking along the ravine path. Little bit of walking meditation each day. Committing to (and looking forward to) a little more regularity in my routine. Starting exercises 11 & 12 from the Satipatthana Sutta tomorrow. Must decide on a second bell of mindfulness - and remember the first one! - as well as plan two half days of mindfulness. Oh yes!
