Time: 9:35am
What: 20 minutes seated practice
Focus: Second Foundation / Exercises 11 - 12 (Sati-)
Scheduled time. Gf has phone meeting scheduled for 10am. Clicking, typing, clicking, shuffling around. Avocado sprout in view. Sun shining onto hardwood floor. Sitting with a blend of peace and impatience. Checked the clock twice. Sitting with the urge to get up and prepare for the day, for the yoga class tonight, get out of the way for the phone meeting, don't want to forget something... Bring palms together, resolved to finish early, just as the alarm "bongs". Huh.
House cleaning, as well as bringing worm compost and plants indoors, took the place of asana practice this morning. 8 degrees is too close of a call for our worm friends (they don't like the temp dipping under 5 degrees). Rearranging furniture, wiping surfaces, prepping to bring the outdoors indoors for the 'winter'. A little like cleaning the mind up to prepare for a sit.
Chose sirens as the second bell of mindfulness. Sirens create a bit of tension, shortness of breath, irritation. Felt to me like a good time to be mindful.
Noticed that with all the micro-practices (prepping coffee, brushing teeth, walking to subway) and formal practice, the entire morning feels like a mindfulness practice. How 'bout that!
