26 July 2006

I generally start my days (after brushing my teeth, etc. etc.) by walking my sorry ass to the studio at approximately 6:30 in the bright shiney AM. I find the city of Taipei quite nice at this time... I always think that I should bring a camera to take pictures of the strange things I see along the way. But really now, who brings a camera along at 6:30 in the morning? Just as I thought. I feel inspired at the moment to try and describe for you these early morning experiences, and why I might feel the urge to capture it on film (or digital something or other).

Taipei is quiet at 6:30 in the morning. You must understand that Taipei is rarely quiet. The streets are empty except for a handful of elderly folks doing tai chi on the sidewalks, drunk men passed out on benches, weird teenagers stumbling out of Partyworld, and a couple people waiting for buses. The sun is usually bright, and the air is surprisingly light (rather than the heavy, humid, smoggy air that fills the afternoons and evenings). Things I would take pictures of: the giant snails that seem to litter this one sidewalk on my walk to work; the flattened rat that someone seems to have run over; the lady that is always selling soup so damn early; the sun still sort of rising; empty streets; and whatever other fascinating thing appeared (that only seems fascinating when it's quiet and the streets are empty).

Those were my thoughts.

Other thoughts I had today. I have a rebellious streak. I should refrain from drinking large amounts of cappucino on an empty stomach. I should say less and reflect more. I have nothing interesting to say that isn't complaining about work. Ryan is a funny guy. I missed Eric. When does Emma get back from Hong Kong? Why haven't I talked to Alison lately? Have I been unusually negative? I still need to drink more water. There's a gecco living in my house and he's cute and small. Tomorrow is my day off off off. Karma yoga speaks to my soul. My head hurts. My Momz is awesome. I should read the Living Gita next. I should travel to Australia before I leave this side of the planet...

These pictures have been brought to you by... the internet. Though I may not have physically taken the photographs myself, I did manage to find them all by my lonesome. You should be impressed.

* The hunt for work permit information continues for Ryan. Decisions pending. * I am currently reading a book on Tibet, China and the wonderful dilemma that that entails. Included in the book is a brief mention of the dysfunction between Taiwan and China. Fun fun. * If you google the word dysfunction, the first website on the list is for erectile dysfunction. I find this hilarious. * Last week I resolved to meditate every day. So far I have managed to meditate... wait for it... once. What happened to my stealey resolve? I shake my head... at myself... and the computer. I should stop doing that.

So this has been an update on Nicole's random thoughts one hot evening in Taiwan. Current status: headachey, cheerey, tired and ready to see what's on tv. I'm hoping for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. For realz yo. Oh, oh... or that damn fashion design show. What's that called? Yeah, yeah - Project Runway. Peace and love. xx. -n.
