Time: 8:12am
What: 25 minutes asana / 20 minutes seated practice
Focus: Second Foundation / Exercises 5 - 8 (Ana-)
It's not so easy to reflect on practice while listening to JT and dancing in one's chair. Nonetheless... that's what's happening. Alright now... off we go...
This morning's practice was like this:
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
I LOVE YOGA!!!
The body was stiff and limited in range of motion. As though I'd been spending days sitting in a chair (badly). Huh. Imagine that. Despite the 'difficulty' of practicing, I felt JOY (like the giddy excited kind of joy). It felt nourishing to move, to feel, to be aware of the breath and body, to lay on my back without anything else to do. I felt inspired. Class intentions, sequencing, ideas about practice were flooding in. I wished my allotted 25 minutes in the morning could be an hour, but alas, the alarm rang and it was time to end.
Seated practice was filled with the same joy / happiness. Though more as a light peacefulness that makes you think 'yum'. It was nice to sit amongst the clutter of mind fuzz without being attached to one thing or another. To watch the breath. That's it. Watch and feel the breath happening all by itself. Of course, the happy peacefulness came and went. It was accompanied by a splash of impatience, a memory triggering stress, some tension in the shoulders... that's practice! (I think someone said once... ;).
Have you seen this: The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard?
Recent life circumstances have reminded me of this little film. And now that I think of it, the film is related to the fifth mindfulness training. How 'bout that?

Thanks for reminding me of The Story of Stuff. Here in Vegas, it's message is even more poignant....
